As Summer slowly winds down, the air gets cooler, and the tans begin fade (nooooooo!) we try to hold onto every little bit that we still can.

Since I really do look forward to Fall, the ‘losing-my-tan thing’ is what bums me out the most. I’ve been retired from the tanning beds for years, but that hasn’t stopped me from getting an off-season glow! I’ve talked about some of my favorite self tanning products many – times – before, but I wanted to share a few of my current favorites, as well as some tan-preservation tips with you!

  1. Vaseline Aloe Soothe Spray Moisturizer

vaseline spray lotion

This is hands down my favorite moisturizer. It is so important to hydrate your skin if you want to make a tan last – especially after a day in the sun. I love the feeling of moisturized skin, I’m just a bit lazy when it comes to application. Lucky for me [and other lazies], this product is incredibly easy to apply! Simply spray all over your body, and rub in it.  Your skin will drink it right up — and it dries almost instantly.

You can pick up this lotion at your local drugstore, Target, Walmart – or online here!

2. Jergens Natural Glow Firming Moisturizer

Jergens Natural glow

Once your tan begins to fade, this product will help restore the color evenly & gradually. I’ve always been a bit put off by Jergens products, but they’ve really finessed the formula so that it doesn’t have that potent “fake tan” smell. The firming variety actually smells very sweet – almost like a vanilla icing! This definitely requires a bit more leg work when applying than the vaseline spray, but it does work. Just be sure to wash your hands afterwards!

Order it here!

3. Banana Boat Summer Color Sunless Tinted Lotion

This is one of my favorite self-tanning facial products — I use it in the shade Deep/Dark. It’s a very creamy, brown formula that initially applies with a slight tint, though doesn’t fully develop for a few hours. My tips for getting the most out of this product are to exfoliate your face at night, apply a clay mask, wash it clean, pat dry + then apply this lotion to your face, neck & décolletage. I find it to be pretty buildable, so I’ll typically apply two coats before bed. When I wake up I have a very natural, sun-kissed glow! 🙂

If you’re interested in trying this product, you can find it here [it comes in a  Light/Medium shade as well].

4. Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs

For instant results…this is my go to! Though designed for legs, I use this all over my body. I usually buy it in the shade Tan Glow. It’s basically a body foundation that immediately smoothes, evens out, and tans your skin. I use it year round – especially for special events! My tips for an even & streak free application would be to mix this product with your favorite body moisturizer (about 1/2 + 1/2) & be sure to carefully cover the area you’re trying to tan. Then let it completely dry before getting dressed!

Want to try this product? Pick it up at your local drugstore, or order online here!

5. L’Oreal TrueMatch  Super-Blendable Powder

IMG_6729

Being a bronzer junkie, I’ve tried nearly every product on the shelves…but this one happens to be my current favorite! This powder is not marketed as a bronzer, but I picked it up in the shade Cappuccino (N8) which is much deeper than my skin tone. I use it as I would any other bronzer, but it also dupes as a contour. 🙂

Browse/buy all of the L’Oreal Super-Blendable Powder’s here!

Those are a few of my favorite self-tanning products. If you’re trying to prolong your summer tan, I hope that you’ll give one or two a try!

Do you have any favorites? Feel free share them below. 🙂

XOXO

  1. Hey, I’d really recommend Cocoa Brown Gentle Bronze Gradual Tan. It builds an amazing colour, doesn’t stain bedsheets or clothes and there isn’t a fake tan smell. Plus it’s really moisturising which is always a bonus. I’ve blogged about the Cocoa Brown range on my blog rosegoldglamour.wordpress.com if you wanted more info 🙂

    • Aw, thank you SO much for this recommendation! That sounds like a fabulous product! I’ll absolutely have to check out your post about it. Thank you so much for stopping by 🙂 XOXO

    • The Vaseline spray is honestly the best body lotion I’ve used! It’s quick & easy to apply, super moisturizing & not greasy at all. Let me know if you give it a try!!

Thank you so much for stopping by XOX

    • Hahaha! That spray is literally life changing!!!! Not only is it SO easy to use, it’s honestly just a really great moisturizer. Really appreciate you stopping by my blog! XOXO

  2. I love this post! Its so funny because I didn’t go swimming once this summer and rarely spent time in the sun because I was so busy. Now that summers ending, I have this weird intense desire to be tan all the sudden, but my pool is closed. I’ll have to pick up these products and just fake it 🙂 Ps, I’m happy to hear that the jergins smells better now because it was so awful before!

    • Haha aw! Such a bummer about missing out on the summer weather!! Definitely give them a try – I love having a little color, I can get really, really pale, so I use these all year round!

      Thank you for reading! XOXO
