best-drugstore-high-end-foundation

Hi Everyone, I hope you had a lovely weekend. 🙂 Today’s post is a long time coming — I’m sharing four of my must-have foundations with you!

Foundation is difficult in the sense that finding one that has a formula that you like, the coverage coverage that you need, and a shade that’s compatible with your skin is downright tricky! Foundation is such a crucial part of your beauty routine…the name explains it all…it’s literally the FOUNDATION for the rest of your makeup. You want to be sure that you’re working with the right stuff!

Most days, I’ll skip the foundation altogether or opt for a BB Cream, but some days, I need that fuller-coverage look. I have four of my favorite foundations to share with you; two pricey picks, and two drugstore options. All equally as great.

Take a peek!

1.  Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation $35.00

If you didn’t know, I’ve become a huge fan of KVD products over the last 6 months. Every time I try anything of hers, I fall in love immediately. The quality, the coverage, the wearability, I’m just repeatedly impressed. When her concealer and powder blew me away, I knew I needed to try her foundation too! To my not-so-surprise, it was phenomenal. This foundation is not for everyday (at least for me). It is so thick, so full coverage, and wears like airbrush makeup. This is my go-to foundation if I’m attending an event, if I’m going to be photographed, or if I have a long, busy day of appointments/meetings! This stuff is the definition of full coverage. It will cover, mattify, and conceal any blemishes, discoloration, or flaws you may have. I love it and I’m so glad to have it in my arsenal!

2.  Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation $48.00

I had heard nothing but rave reviews about this product for years. Once I got my hands on it, I’ll admit – it wasn’t love at first use. After becoming more familiar with the product and experimenting with different application techniques, it has slowly climbed it’s way into my favorites. It has a very thick and creamy formula, amazing coverage, and long wearing abilities. Similar to KVD, it’s not something I prefer to use for everyday, but it is a wonderful option for those days or nights where you’re looking to step it up! (FYI: this is an older tube, they’ve since repackaged!)

3.  Maybelline FIT ME $6.00

I have been a fan of this foundation for years. I’ve tried both their Matte + Poreless and Dewey + Smooth versions. To be honest I think I like the dewey a little bit better, but this is the bottle that I currently have on hand. I adore this formula; it provides great coverage without feeling heavy at all! I love how this wears and feels throughout the day – it’s a wonderful option for someone who prefers to wear a fuller-coverage product everyday and doesn’t want to spend a ton of money. I highly recommend…to be honest, the entire Maybelline FIT Me line is pretty impressive!

4.  Revlon Colorstay Foundation $10.00

I saved the best for last! This is my all-time favorite! It’s a hands down, feet down, give it an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, Nobel Peace Prize kind of product! Think of everything you want in a foundation… for me, this checks off every requirement on that list. First off, the variety of shades is insane; my color (330 Natural Tan) is spot on! It covers, it lasts, it makes my skin look dewey and perfect, it doesn’t dry me out, and IT HAS A PUMP! Major bonus points. This is the best drugstore foundation (in my book) and a product I have become very loyal too. I don’t wear this everyday, but it is light enough to do so! If you are looking for a new foundation and have never given this a shot, I cannot recommend it enough. I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

And that’s it!! I love them each for different reasons; some for everyday, others for special occasions, but regardless of where and how you plan to wear your foundation… any of the above is worth every.single.penny.

What is your go-to foundation? Should I try it?!

Have you used any of these before?

XOXO

  1. Such a great timing for this post! I am looking for an everyday foundation as the one I am using will soon run out. I have the Estee Lauder double wear for nights out and special occasions which is amazing but a bit too heavy for me for everyday use. I think I will give Revlon Colorstay a go! xx

  2. great timing of a post! Haven’t tried any of these, but the KVD & LM sound great! A lot of these are heavy coverage, and i’m in the market for a more luminous/lightweight/silk based foundation – i’ve been recommended the YSL, Armani or Nars, but don’t know what to go with! #struggle

    • Ahhh the struggle is real!! KVD is amazing but super heavy…see if you can swatch the LM Silk Creme at the beauty store! That may be a great option for you! 🙂

  3. AMEN to #4!!!! I started using this after after another one of your tutorials and I absolutely love it. I haven’t even really tried many others, probably because this one is so perfect that I don’t need to!

    • Ahhh yay!!! Same, girl!! Everytime I try a new one, it’s fun for a couple of days before I go back to that one haha! It is honestly the best! Such a hidden gem!! 🙂

    • Ohh, I’ve never tried a color corrector! KVD has some incredible products, the foundation is way too thick & heavy for everyday wear (for me) but it is absolutely amazing! Such a great product!! XO

  4. Kat Von D is having 20% off her site and I wanted to get the concealer you love, but of course it’s sold out in my shade. That foundation is the fullest coverage that’s on the market, in my opinion. It doesn’t look great on my skin though 🙁 The only Laura Mercier product I’ve tried is her translucent powder. I don’t hear much about her foundations so it’s good to know that it’s good! I love the Matte and Poreless and the Color Stay. Right now I’m loving the CoverGirl 3-in-1 Outlast foundation and I LOVE it. Another great drugstore option!

    • KVD’s line is evil/amazing! It’ll such you right in. That concealer is amazing, but I agree -her foundation is SO full coverage. I love it for a special occasion, but waaay too heavy for everyday. I will have to check out that Cover Girl!! I was sent one of their foundations 2-3 years ago that I actually liked, but the shade was so off. Will have to revisit!! Thanks for reading!! XO

    • Ohh! I haven’t tried any of e.l.f.’s foundations! I do love their primer… Will have to give it a try! Thanks for reading & for sharing that w/ me! XO

  5. Also a big fan of fit me, that was my first go to foundation! Recently I have tried naked skin liquid foundation by urban decay, super light weight and gives excellent coverage 🙂

  6. Amanda- try the NARS liquid foundation from Sephora (the one in the tube, velvet matte skin tint)! I like foundation that i can apply quickly with my hands and not look like i am wearing a ton of makeup, just evening out my skin. This one is by far my favorite one (besides chanel) that i have ever tried. It comes on so velvety and smooth and lasts literally all day! I have oily skin so its hard for me to find foundation that doesn’t make me break out and clog my pores but that also provides full all day coverage. I feel like since i have been using this NARS one, my skin is actually more clear and healthy looking. I swear its worth the purchase 🙂

I also recently got into Josie Maran cosmetics and i love her all natural argan products. You should give these a try! Everything is made with pure argan oil and i have noticed a change- my pores are smaller, my skin is softer, and brighter!! thanks for sharing all of your amazing tips and favorites on here!! love your blog!!! 🙂

    • Okay, I think you’ve sold me on the NARS! That sounds like something I need to try ASAP! 🙂 I haven’t tired any Josie Maran products before, but they sound intriguing! Smaller pores, and brighter, softer skin = totally got my attention. I’m definitely going to look into her stuff!! Thank you for reading & sharing. Hope you’re well! SO jealous of your amazing Paris trip!!!! See you soon! XOXOXO
