I don’t know where you live, but where I live (Connecticut), it has been COLD. Although the first day of Winter only arrived yesterday, that bone chilling weather made it’s entrance earlier in the month. While the freezing temps are seasonally festive for like 5 minutes…it gets old really, really quick.
For me, getting dressed (especially dressed up) is always a little more difficult in the Winter. However, while difficult, it’s not totally impossible to step out in style this time of year. And to prove it, I’m going to share some of my Winter layering and style tips with you!
1.Invest in VESTS! Do not underestimate the power in a faux fur, fringe, or teddy fleece vest. They spice up even the most simplest of outfits and provide that little bit of extra warmth we all need. BONUS: you can usually fit your winter coat atop most styles. This allows you to stay extra toasty while en route to wherever you’re going, but remain comfortable while there. 🙂
2. Tights! Some people are really anti-tights, but you must hop on this train! Though thin, they provide so much more warmth than you’d think. There are thousands of styles, prints, patterns, and materials available to us nowadays…fleece-lined anyone!? Don’t pass on the opportunity to wear a cute skirt, just find the right pair of tights to accompany and compliment it. I’m a solids girl, I have a bunch of the same pair in a variety of colors. 🙂
3. Layer under your layers! This may sound silly and confusing, but I always wear a snug tank or long sleeve shirt underneath any top I have on. That little bit of material will serve as an extra barrier and keep you super cozy. This applies to more than just shirts though! Double up on socks and wear a pair of leggings or tights beneath your pants. The goal is to stay as warm as possible without looking like the little brother from A Christmas Story.
I love this look! Obviously it’s going to be chilly snapping pictures outside without a coat, BUT! Between my vest, the tank top under my long sleeved shirt, my tights, and a pair of shorts under my skirt as well…it was pretty tolerable. 😉
My long sleeved top is from Target, the fringe skirt is from Banana Republic, vest was a Marshalls find, tights are No Nonsense, necklace is Forever 21, crossbody is from the Jessica Simpson Collection, and my sunnies are from Claire’s!
