Favorite Summer Products

Living in New England, we have the luxury of experiencing four completely different seasons. While I’m definitely not one to smile at the thought of snow, I must admit – in some weird way, I do look forward to it every year. Each season means something different to me, and last year I began a few Β traditions to fully embrace each one. However, my main rule is no jumping the gun! Meaning, it may finally be September, but if I’m still wearing sundresses & sandals – it’s too early for a pumpkin spice coffee & apple picking!

With that said, it is inevitable that Summer is slowly coming to an end, and I’ve begun cleaning out my closet, bedroom, and my makeup drawers to prepare for all of the amazingness that is Fall! In doing so, I’ve come across quite a few empty products that served me so well this season, and I wanted to share! So without further ado, here are some of my…

summer faves

airbrush
Airbrush Legs Makeup. I discovered these products over a year ago & still swear by them! They can be found in any drugstore, Walmart, Target, etc. and they range in price from about $10-$15. They give the best instant tan! Just make sure that you are applying in the bathroom to avoid any messes.
arbonne
Arbonne Made in the Shade Self-Tanner. My Aunt had purchased this and wasn’t much of a fan, so she gave it to me. I totally lucked out, because not only did I find this stuff to be amazing, this bottle usually retails for about $30! It’s not instant, but I would shower & exfoliate before bed and then apply, never failing to wake up in the morning with the best sun-kissed glow! I rarely spend so much on a product, but I nearly used this entire bottle and will SURELY be purchasing another one very soon!
cc scrub
Clean & Clear Deep Clean Action Exfoliating Scrub ($5-$6 in most drugstores). I fell in love with this face wash in college & have swapped it in and out of my beauty routines throughout the year. This Summer, it was my go-to! I definitely prefer face washes with some kind of scrub or exfoliant in them, I feel like it helps to clean out my pores of all makeup residue. This wash in particular leaves your face feeling cool & totally refreshed.
coil
Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail & Cuticle OilΒ (About $6 at any drugstore)Β By now you SHOULD know that I am a cuticle oil junkie. I stash bottles, pens, and balms at my desk, in my purse, by my bed and everywhere in-between. I love to keep this oil at work because it’s easiest applied when sitting. I’ll coat my nails every hour or so, and it helps to keep nails/cuticles super hydrated & strong. I went through 2 bottles this Summer!
jergens
Jergens Natural Glow + Firming Daily Moisturizer. (About $8-$10 at any drugstore). While I am not a huge Jergens fan, mainly because of that lingering odor, this firming lotion smells & works amazing! It has almost a birthday cake/vanilla icing scent to it. If I really wanted some deep color, I would apply it at night mixed with the Arbonne spray above.
lotion
Sally Hansen Nails & Cuticles Hand Creme ($5-$6 at any drugstore). I always have hand lotion on me – and this one is great to keep in toe. Anything that moisturizes & is beneficial for your nails is A-OK in my book.
masclotion
Maybelline Falsies Flared Volum’ Express Mascara ($6-$7 at any drugstore) AMAZING mascara! I have naturally long lashes & am usually not phased by any mascara, but this stuff is incredible! I’ve already picked up two more tubes. CVS Brand Oil-Free Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15 ($8-$9) SPF in your lotion is key for the Summer. This lotion is a dupe of a Neutrogena product & works just as well. I have combo skin, and this balances it just perfectly. I recently picked up another bottle for Fall πŸ™‚
nyc
NYC Appleicious Glossy Lip Balm ($2-$4 at drugstore) these are my new favorite lip balms! Super moisturizing & add just enough color & shimmer. I just finished my second one. I tried the Chocolate Apple & Big Apple Red flavors.
vase
Vaseline Spray & Go MoisturizerΒ – Aloe fresh ($6-$9 at drugstore) Saved the best for last! This is a quick, convenient, continuous-spray lotion that moisturizes deeply and absorbs instantly. Leaves your skin soft & not the least bit greasy. I could not swear by this product any more – so amazing for Summer when moisturizing is at an all time high. I literally took it with me everywhere!

Phew. That seemed like quite the list, but I was really impressed with each and every one of these products!

Have you tried any of my Summer Faves? What products were you loving this year? Let me know! πŸ™‚

Gelish: “Love in Bloom” Spring 2013 Collection

Just what we need in the midst of this chilly Winter – a bright (and colorful) light at the end of the tunnel… Spring polish collections! Most major brands have announced their lines, but I was anxiously awaiting one in-particular. πŸ™‚

My preferred Gel brand, Gelish recently released its “Love in Bloom” line for Spring 2013, and it looks fab!

The six bottle collection features a palette ranging from warm pinks and oranges to cool greens and purples. Β It’s honestly difficult for me to choose a favorite! I am looking forward to trying them all – Sweet Morning Dew, Garden Tea Party, and He Loves Me He Loves Me Not are definitely at the top of my list.

At this point, anything that is not a dark red, green, blue, purple, black, or brown is exciting to me – I’m ready for color!

Will you pick up any of the colors in this collection?

2012 Fall Favorites

Fall is one of my favorite times of year…the colors, smells, food, and fashion- to die! Not so lucky for us on the East Coast, this Fall has been aggressively interrupted by Hurricane Sandy, and most recently this friendly little Nor’easter named Athena. While my state, and town are currently buried in fresh white snow, I wanted to bring it back and remember that regardless of what we may feel…winter is not here yet!

To help get back in the mind set, I picked out some of my absolute favorite things about Fall 2012 thus far- enjoy!

Fall nailpolish! This has been a favorite of mine this season: Essie Bordeaux
This manicure is two coats of Gelish “Sweet Chocolate” with two coats of Essie “Bordeaux” on top. I’m in love with the pairing!
Transitional season jackets! I love this black leather one that I picked up at Marshalls a couple of years ago!
Candles! I burn candles year round, but the Fall scents are my favorites. My go-to’s are Vanilla, Pecan Pie, Fresh Baked Cookies, and Pumpkin Spice πŸ™‚
My midnight snack: Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt. I am obsessed with their Blueberry Vanilla Graham flavor!
Halloween! This is one of my favorite days of the year! I usually like to get super creative, but kept it simple this year. Here’s the funny thing about our costumes: my boyfriend has to grow his hair out, one night we were playing around with it and he looked JUST like Danny Zuko! So we thought it’d be fun to dress up as Sandy & Danny for Halloween. Before you know it, we were about to get hit with Hurricane Sandy & everyone decided to dress the same in honor of the storm! I didn’t even really care for the costume, we did it all for his hair- which he barely ended up styling LOL. So you’ve heard it here: I did not dress up in honor of Hurricane Sandy, I dressed up to compliment my boyfriends locks!
Belts! I love adding a belt to a plain pair of slacks or around a simple sweater!
My Louis Vuitton πŸ™‚ I got this bag last year & it is so special for many reasons! I carried it right up until the beginning of Spring last year, and then packed it up until Fall- in my opinion it’s far too seasonal to carry throughout the summer! Ever since, I have been itching to take it out again. I think that sometime this week I’ll transfer everything & start carrying it again!
Bath & Body Works Paris Amour hand lotion, Gelish NOURISH cuticle oil, Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing “Fearless” Gloss, and a Revlon nail file. These three items are crucial, the lotion & oil I use at least a dozen times per day- my hands and nails get very dry once the weather starts to get chilly. I must have them on me (in my purse) at all times. πŸ˜‰
Seasonal phone wallpaper. It seems silly, but I always change my phone background with the seasons, holidays, etc. I had a colorful Fall scene for a while, but I just changed it to this gorgeous photo once the snow started coming down today! I know it’s borderline Winter, but I found it on Google a while ago & have been dying to use it. (I believe it was shot by Madeline Bea Photography– she has gorgeous work!)
Big, cozy sweaters! I bought this wrap from H & M in 2007 and still adore it πŸ™‚
Family dinners: Fall is all about cooking! I spent last weekend cooking a mini Pre-Thanksgiving dinner with my Mama. Nothing I love more than spending time with my family πŸ™‚
Everything APPLE! My Apple Crisp pie is hands down my favorite Fall recipe (and always a crowd pleaser!) I’ve already baked two this season & plan on making at least a couple more. Let me know if I should post the recipe!
Half/Oval/Mini-Stiletto Nails: I decided to try a completely new nail shape. I attempted this look almost a year ago & hated it! I decided to give it another shot except this time around I used a different filing technique & am currently in love with these nails! As they slowly grow longer, the pointier I’m able to shape them πŸ™‚ (Polish = Gelish “Black Cherry Berry”)

Those are just a few of my favorite things this season! What are you loving about Fall this year? Let me know πŸ™‚

Nude, but not so naked lips

I’ve had an obsession with brown/nude lips lately and have been picking up a ton of different products to achieve the look I’m craving! I’m really happy with what I found and wanted to share 4 of my favorites with you:

1) NYC City Proof “Gold With Me” 460:

I picked this up at CVS for $2-$3. It goes on very light…as in white light, not sheer light, and has a ton of shimmer

2) NARS Female Trouble:

My friend Nikki worked at Sephora, and recently moved out of the country. Before she left she gave me a huge (seriously, HUGE) bag of products and this gloss was in it! It goes on as a deep brown shade that appears with a hint of pink/red. I love it!

3) NYC Smooch Proof Lip Stain Never Ending Nude 492

This I snagged at CVS for $4-$6. I love lip stains! This shade goes great under all of the glosses/sticks πŸ™‚

4) Rimmel London Lasting Finish By Kate Lipstick/Rosseto

Another CVS find for about $7? Great lipstick! A true nude shade

Swatches:

L to R: NYC Gold With Me, NARS, NYC Never Ending Nude, Rimmel London

I’ve been using these products religiously for the last couple of weeks. I recently Instagram-ed this pictures of the NARS gloss:

This lip is actually the NYC Stain with the NARS on top! I loved the combo!
This lip is the NYC stain, with the Rimmel lipstick on top, and a light coat of the NYC gloss

I really like all of these products! I’d have to say that my absolute favorites are the Rimmel Lipstick and the NARS gloss. The NYC gloss is probably my least favorite…there’s a little too much shimmer for me. The good news is that most of them are definitely affordable and can be found in nearly any drug or beauty store.

Let me know if you have a favorite nude lip product!

Secret Blogger Swap Reveal!

I was so excited to participate in my first blogger swap this past week! Huge thank you to Danielle over at Framed Frosting for setting everything up πŸ™‚

The blogger that I was assigned to was Sami! She blogs at Sami’s Shenanigans and seems like such a sweet girl, we actually have a lot in common (including a chihuahua names Lily LOL) which made shopping for her even more fun! She wrote a sweet reveal post today about everything I sent to her, I’m so glad she liked what I picked out- make your way over to her blog to see! πŸ™‚

After reading Sami’s reveal post, I see that she sent a package to Ashley who blogs at The Sweet Life who happened to be the lovely lady who sent a package to ME! How ironic is that?

I really loved what Ashley sent to me, check out everything in the big reveal below …

Sweet card πŸ™‚
Everything was wrapped in this adorable pink & silver polka-dot paper!
The first things I opened were an EOS Strawberry Sorbet lip balm (which I actually ALMOST bought the other day!) and some adorable Goody hair ties with a metal embellishment that can double as bracelets! I had never seen these, but I love multi-functional products πŸ™‚
I mentioned that I’m always looking for healthy snacks and Ashley packed her favorite Lemon Zest Luna Bar-believe it or not, I have never had a Luna Bar (!) so I’m super excited to try it πŸ™‚
My favorite part of the package! Nail supplies :):) She sent me a file with a case- these are genius, I had one years ago, but never replaced it. I’m so excited that my phone will no longer get scratched up in my bag. The cuticle remover is clutch, and the orange polish is perfect for summer! *The funny thing is that I sent Sami a coral polish, and she sent Ashley one as well! We can all rock the same mani now πŸ™‚

I had a lot of fun participating in the swap- it was a great first experience, and I hope to do another in the future!

Have you ever participated in a blogger swap? What was the best thing you received?
