While you were watching the NFC Championship….I was watching this.

I spent my Sunday as I usually do- in front of the television (with a slight attitude as I was missing yet another episode of Bravo’s Real Housewives), watching my boyfriend nearly die of heart failure during the Giants game.

Seeing as I really had no serious attachment to the game, I spent the full 6+ hours of Sunday football tending to my cuticles, making my grocery list, tweeting, and documenting the absolute craziness that I was witnessing.

Watching a man watch sports is a sport in itself. It never ceases to amaze me the lengths they will go to root for their team. Yesterday was quite a spectacle…let me give you a photographic play by play (no pun intended) 😉

PIC 1) The game started out like any other, relaxing on the couch, eating, joking…all fun and games.

…Then the other team scored.

PIC 2) Fun and games are over. Time to lose the sweatshirt, and stand for the next 3 hours.

PICS 3/4) It is important to bring bring an inanimate object into play- something to  lean on, kick around, rest on for extra support.

We made it through the first half alive and well. The game was close, but there was still plenty of time for the Giants to pull through for the W. The second half began…

PIC 5) The Giants started to slack a bit, Mike had to leave the room. He *couldn’t* watch. So he sat in the bathroom…praying. Unfortunately, I do not have a picture, I didn’t want to bother him during those personal moments. When the G-Men picked it back up, he was alerted by one of the other males in the room, and returned in a jersey. As he entered the room he pointed to his jersey… said, and I quote ” I think I needed to rep my team, they FEEL this!” Sure they do, babe.

PIC 6) At this time we weren’t doing so hot, so Mike started taunting the other team.. “How are YOU gunna sleep tonight?!” he told one of the guys on the bench. “Just score the ****** touchdown! Just score the touchdown, how about THAT!?” he yelled at one of the Giants players. When they didn’t score the touchdown, he went back to the bathroom to pray lol.

PIC 7) This was interesting. He came back and decided brush his teeth…for about 8-10 minutes.

The screaming, pacing and jumping continued; I swear you would have thought I were sitting in on an advanced cardio class.

PIC 8) The squats. Up down, up down, up down- we were headed towards overtime.

PIC 9) The 49er’s fumble after one of the Giants knock the ball out of their hands…“TIGHTEN UP BOY! TIGHTEN UP! HAAAAA!” ………”Are they CRYING!?” It was coming down to the wire…the Giants were in position to make a field goal and win the whole thing in overtime. It was tense in that room- thinking back, I don’t think I was breathing. “This is where dreams are made boys!….PRAY! I’m right there with you!” he yelled in an effort to comfort his team.

10) They made the goal and were on their way to play the New England Patriots in the 2012 Superbowl.”SEE YOU IN THE SUPERBOWL SONNNN!!!!” And then this happened…a Peter Pan-like jump(?!) I am so glad I was able to document the burst from this boy.

Lot’s of celebrating, screaming, and cheering went on as everyone rushed the field. And then began the calls…….

I guess it’s standard for guys to call EVERY OTHER GUY who is NOT a fan of their team to remind them that THEIR team just won…(sore winner if you ask me) 😉

Mike made not one, not two, but THREE calls to Giants haters.

The best call was left on the voicemail of some kid who had a nasty status about the Giants on his Facebook. Mike had met him once, but I think he may be seeing him again “I HOPE YOU SEE ME IN YOUR DREAMS! NEXT TO ELI, JACOBS AND BRADSHAW!!”  …was that really necessary? I really didn’t think so, but I wasn’t going to interrupt procedure.

After calls were done, it was all smiles and relief. My boyfriend is a certified nut job, but I love him.

All I can think is thank God the Giants didn’t lose. We’re safe for now, but come Superbowl time things may get really ugly.

I know I’m not the only girl subjected to the madness of a sports fanatic. What team does your man go ga-ga for?

Perfect Snow Day

We had a nice little snow storm in Connecticut today. There wasn’t a crazy amount of accumulation (thank the Lord), but it was enough to convince me to stay indoors.

I was so ambitious on Twitter this morning and made a snow day to-do list; I’m proud to say I pretty much accomplished everything I wanted to do…

I started with a workout, gave myself a pedicure (Zoya-Moxie, a really pretty deep pink polish), and cleaned my apartment a bit. Afterwards, I took a hot shower, snuggled up with a mug of hot cocoa and wrapped myself in some cozy throw blankets. I lit my candles and caught up with the pile of US Weekly magazines that was building on my nightstand. I had time to do some blogging and even found some delicious new dessert recipes to try out.

What an incredibly relaxing day! I’m looking forward to eating (maybe cheating?) and watching a movie tonight! 🙂

How did you spend your snow day? Or are you lucky enough to be somewhere warm and snow-free? 😉

Do You Have a “Want List”?

So as you know, I’m making a huge effort to spend less money this year, I’m really proud of myself because so far I’ve broken a number of bad spending habits that I had developed. I’ll do a full post on ways to save money in the near future, but today I just wanted to share one of the things I’ve been doing to keep myself and my wallet in check.

Create your want list….

Every time I have the urge to buy something, I add it to my “want list” instead of impulsively purchasing it (which I would have normally done). The best thing about doing this is that it creates some structure for my purchases. While in reality, I could go ahead and buy most of the things on here right now-I don’t need to. I’d rather wait until I needed certain items or until I found a really good sale before buying them.

Some things currently on my want list: a cute new day planner, more gel nail polish colors, a new barrel hairbrush, blue suede pumps, a healthy cookbook, the new iphone, new vanilla candles, and some colorful tights.

It’s smart to wait to buy things that you want; it wont leave you as strapped for cash when unexpected, but important things come up (a spontaneous girls night out, a birthday gift for someone, an oil change, a new bronzer after yours falls and cracks all over the bathroom floor (ugh!)etc.) and it gives you something to look forward to!

You may be surprised to find that sometimes the things you thought you really wanted make their way off of your list…you may change your mind and set your heart on something completely different! It’s definitely helped me resist the urge to impulsively spend.

What’s on your want list?

Quick & Healthy Dinner

I needed to whip up a quick dinner the other night, but wanted something simple and fairly healthy. I pulled ingredients from my fridge and pantry and made a primavera-esque dish that was actually really good!

I gathered as many veggies as I could find- broccoli, carrots, onions, and mushrooms.

I sliced my onion and immediately put it into the frying pan with some olive oil to caramelize. After the onion slices started loosing their shape I added the rest of the veggies, a tad more olive oil and some salt and pepper to season.

Cook until all veggies are soft

While the vegetables were on the stove, I cooked and drain some wheat spaghetti in a separate pot…

Wheat pasta takes just a bit longer to cook.

Once the veggies were done, I mixed them into the pasta and added a bit more olive oil to substitute as a sauce.

Sprinkle with grated parmesan, salt and pepper to taste

That’s it!

The dish was actually pretty filling and I had plenty of leftovers to bring for lunch the next day.

I love to cook, but not so much on weeknights. I’m always looking for simple and healthy dinner recipes- please feel free share your favorites below!

A few things I love about winter…

It is officially too cold to leave the house without a coat (snow or no snow)…in my book that means winter has arrived. I must admit while I dread the cold weather…it’s a nice change of pace in the wardrobe department. There are certain clothes, bags, colors, and shoes that are more acceptable in the winter time. Here are my seasonal favorites:

1) Scarves: I wear a variety of scarves year round, however this time of year the heavier knits serve as more of a necessity than an accessory.

Some of my go-to scarves
My good friend Kelly got me this maroon Calvin Klein scarf, it is so warm and has an elastic band thread down the middle which gives it a nice bounce. 🙂 I've been loving it this week.

2) A winter hand bag. I recently got a Louis Vuitton and I am so in love with it! It is perfect for the season and I am trying to get as much use out of it as possible before the bright colors of Spring come back around.

My pride and joy 🙂
I found this great Kate Spade winter bag in Marshalls this week and fell in love with it as well! (May have to go back....)

3) Moisturizers. I moisturize year round, but it is especially important during the winter. My skin get’s really dry, so I prefer to use a body butter. I have an apricot mango butter for every day, a lavender butter for nighttime and a regular floral-y scent when I’m in a hurry or need a quick pump.

All three lotions smell so good!

It is important to keep your face moisturized and hydrated as well. My regular Olay lotion doesn’t cut it as my skin gets super dry in the winter, luckily Ponds Dry Skin Cream works wonder.

You can find Ponds at any drugstore

Don’t forget a yummy smelling hand lotion to keep hands from drying or cracking.

This stuff smells amazing!

4) Faux Fur. Capitalize on the cold- you can’t wear fur in the summer! I got this amazing faux chinchilla vest which serves as a perfect substitute for a coat!

Surprisingly, this vest keeps me just as warm as my peacoat.

5) Dark Nailpolish Colors. I have tried nearly every polish color, but I must admit that the darker shades are my favorite. If you’re not accustomed to using crazy colors but want to try something new, choose a forrest green or deep blue; they are still very clean and professional looking but will definitely mix things up.

Browns and maroons and greens- oh my 🙂

6) A cozy sweater! Take advantage of the opportunity to bundle up and wear something cozy. This sweater could easily substitute as a robe.

I swear this is so comfortable- I wish I could wear it everyday.
I had to take a shot of the back because I love the way that it folds over my shoulders.

7) Knee High Boots. I love wearing boots, they go with skinny jeans, leggings, skirts, and certain dresses. I have a simple pair of 3-4″ black suede knee highs that I wear at least twice a week-they are so versatile!

I've only had these boots for about a year and they've seen so much action I've already worn down the heels. Time for a trip to the shoemaker.

I look forward to pulling these clothes, products and accessories out every year. What kinds of things do you like to wear/use/do during the winter months?
