Blogmas 2014 – Day 9: Merry Christmas Addie!

Happy Blogmas Day 9!

Do you remember how exciting it was to get mail when you were a kid? What was better than receiving a letter addressed to you?! Heck, I still love getting mail (non-bill related mail, of course).

Well, there is a sweet little 6 year old girl in Utah who is asking anyone and everyone who is willing, to send her mail.

This lady’s name is Addie. She suffers from an undiagnosed illness – and was given less than one year to live.

Anticipating that this Christmas will likely be the last for Addie, her family is doing everything that they can to make it extra special – and they’ve asked the public to help. Since Addie loves receiving cards – her parents are asking that people add her to their holiday mailing lists when sending out their Christmas cards.

You can read Addie’s whole story here.

While they make me cry in an instant, I love stories like these – and being able to do a little something to make a sweet child smile.

Danny Nickerson had a similar birthday wish this past summer! I was happy to mail him a card too 🙂

Blogmas 2014 – Day 8: Belted Wrap Coats

Happy Monday & Blogmas Day 8!

I’ve usually been kind of “meh” when it comes to winter coats, I never gave them much thought. Lately though, I have been completely obsessed with belted wrap jackets! I never realized how much a good coat could add to even the frumpiest of outfits.

I picked up a really fun burgundy/fall belted wrap jacket from Target a couple of months ago and have been in LOVE with it!

It falls just about mid-thigh

I get so many compliments whenever I wear it – it’s comfy, it’s warm, it has awesome deep pockets & the belt tie makes it so easy to put on/take off. Target has a black & white one that I really wanted too (I couldn’t bring myself to buy 2 coats in September)…but I think my little sister mayyy have taken the hint & picked up my Christmas present early 😉

Not sure why they styled the model like this, I feel like her outfit takes away from the jacket, but the coat is so adorable in person!

While I’m in love with my two Target finds, there are so many others out there that I have been eyeing! Take a look at a few of my favorites! 🙂 –>

Blogmas Day 2014 – Day 7: Snag Her Style – Kim Kardashian (Christmas Edition)

I’ve been so bad at daily blogging this weekend – I feel like I’ve been running all over the place the last couple of days!

I’m determined to keep up with Blogmas, so tonight I thought I’d do a quick Christmas Edition of Snag Her Style! Between work, family, and friends, most of us have quite a few holiday parties to attend in the upcoming weeks. I wanted to dupe an outfit that was both classy, comfortable, and of course, affordable!

Love her or hate her, you cannot deny Kim Kardashian’s flawless style. If nothing else, the girl knows how to pair, style, accessorize, and just wear clothes (well, most of the time she’s wearing clothes lol).

I really wanted to dupe this simple holiday look of hers from a couple of years ago:

Kim

I’m a huge fan of comfortable & forgiving ensembles – this outfit is just that! I was so excited to be able to put together something very similar. Here’s how you can snag the style 🙂 –>

Blogmas 2014 – Day 6 – DIY: Festive Diaper Wreath

Helloooo! Happy Blogmas Day 6 🙂

I have a fun Christmas/baby-related craft to share today!

I’m going to a holiday-themed baby shower tomorrow and I wanted to (attempt to) make a festive diaper wreath to bring along with my gift. I found an awesome tutorial online – and followed the instructions … for the most part.

Below are my step by step instructions 🙂

Obviously had to make a cup of cocoa in my favorite mug before I got started :)
I obviously had to make a cup of cocoa in my favorite mug before I got started 🙂

Alright, here we go!

Materials needed: Diapers, thick ribbon, thin ribbon, cardboard cutouts (I used cake plates), hot glue gun, scissors, tape, and a not pictures box cutter
Materials needed: Diapers, thick ribbon, thin ribbon, 2 cardboard cutouts (I used cake boards), hot glue gun, scissors, tape, and a (not pictured) box cutter
I traced a small paper plate in the center of the cardboard to be cut out
The center of the cardboard needed to be removed. To do so, I traced a small paper plate in the center cut it out with my box cutter.  I did this to both pieces.
Hot glue popsicle sticks to one side of the cardboard for added support

Hot glue the two pieces of cardboard together

Time to start wrapping diapers! I used scotch tape to secure each one.

Wrap & glue a piece of the thick ribbon around the diaper
Wrap & hot glue a piece of the thick ribbon around each diaper
So my cardboard donut was too small & wouldn't allow me to get the diapers very close together
At this point I ran into my first issue. My cardboard donut was too small & wouldn’t allow me to get the diapers very close together #FAIL
small
So I rolled a few diapers much tighter so that they could be used to fill in the empty spaces.
So I rolled a bunch of tighter diapers to fill in the blank spaces. I did not secure them in place - I used the smaller ribbon to do so. Here's how: hot glue the end of the ribbon strand to the back of the cardboard. Then weave it over and around each diaper until you've gone around the entire donut. Then secure a new strand of ribbon to the back and weave/wrap it around each donut again - just in the opposite direction to achieve the X.
(Apologies in advance for the lack of photos for these steps) First, I hot glued the large diapers to the cardboard base, then placed the smaller diapers on top to fill the bare spaces (I did not secure them). From here, hot glue the end of the ribbon strand to the back of the cardboard and begin to weave/wrap it over and around each diaper until you’ve gone around the entire donut. Then secure a new strand of ribbon to the back and weave/wrap it around each donut again – just in the opposite direction to achieve the X.
Glue gun casualties.
Nasty glue gun casualties.
Make a bow out of the big ribbon & ta-da! I bought a santa teether/rattle to hang in the middle :)
Tie a large piece of the big ribbon around the back to create a bow. I decided to buy a santa teether/rattle to hang in the middle  to spruce it up.

And taa-daaa! How cute is this!? If it weren’t made of diapers I would totally make one for my apartment!

This was a really fun project (minus the injuries) and I would totally recommend making one for a friend or family member who has a new baby this holiday season!

Have you made a diaper wreath before?

Any suggestions for non-diaper material I could use to make another one?

XOXO

Blogmas 2014 – Day 5 – Favorite Christmas Movies

Happy Friday…and Blogmas Day 5!

I swear, when you wake up Friday morning the air is different. Hands down, my favorite day of the week 🙂

Toady I thought I’d write about one of the suggested Blogmas topics: My Favorite Christmas Movie. I was just having this discussion with one of my girlfriends the other day – it’s so hard to pick just one, but I think I’ve narrowed it down to my Top 5.

Here it goes! –>

5. ELF

Let it be known that I am not a very big fan of Will Ferrell movies – I don’t really care for his style of humor (that whole Old School/Talladega Nights shenanigans)… but I give the man credit because he totally won me over with Elf. This movie is a Top 5 must for so many reasons – which I’m sure many of you can figure out 🙂

4. A Christmas Story

If you had asked me maybe 10 years ago, this would have been my hands down, no questions asked, absolute #1 favorite! My brother & I would watch as much of the TBS 24 hour A Christmas Story marathon together every single Christmas. Then one year my Mom bought it for us on DVD because we loved it so much (bless her), but then I guess it kind of lost it’s uniqueness since we owned it? It’s still a special film and I’ll definitely tell my kids about how Uncle Matt & I lived and breathed for this movie every single Christmas. I do still love to watch it – but once is enough 😉

3. The Santa Clause

I was in first grade when this movie came out so it’s one of the few films that I vividly remember watching and enjoying every year growing up. It also always makes me want Dennys lol.  Note: only the first one makes the list 😉

2. It’s a Wonderful Life

Aside from the beautiful storyline & the fact that it may be the most classic Christmas film of all time, I love it because my Mom adores it. I remember being younger and her always wanting us to watch it with her. I never really cared for it then. It was black and white, I was traumatized by little George’s bloody ear ha… but the older I got the more I began to love it. It’ll always be a special movie because of how much it means to my Mom, so for that – it’s one of my favorites too. 🙂

Its a wonderful life

1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

I . LOVE . THE . GRISWOLDS. (I’m a huge fan of all the National Lampoon Vacation movies). I love the simplicity of this movie – it’s just good old family fun. No fancy extras – the clothes, the cars, the wrapping paper, the appliances, the cellphone/computer-less life – it reminds me of my childhood. Not to mention, Chevy Chase is hysterical. I may have watched it three times already this year, but who’s counting? #TISTHESEASON

National Lampoons Christmas vacation

That wraps up my Top 5 favorites! I’m trying to enjoy as many holiday movies as I can this month. I love getting home at the end of the day & putting one on, even if I end up falling asleep. It just makes every day of the Christmas season a little more special.

What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Have you been binge watching holiday movies too?

XOXO
